An Introduction to the Conservation of Hadith - In the Light of Sahifah of Hammam ibn Munabbih is an important work by Dr Muhammad Hamidullah.
It dispels the notion that hadiths (Prophetic Traditions) were written 200 years after the death of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. and therefore were subjected to misreporting and fabrications. Examining the original sahifah (manuscripts) of the hadiths recorded by Hammam ibn Munabbih, the disciple of Abu Hurairah, the Prophet's companion, kept in the museums in Turkey, France and Germany, Dr Muhammad proves that the writing down of hadiths was practised since the early days of Islam rather than by oral transmission.
